Ralph- Ralph is the leader of the boys. He tries his best to keep the boys organized and on task but this is NOT an easy job. He thinks of starting a fire to send smoke signals for rescue. He has "fair" hair, (probably blonde), and is only around twelve or thirteen. He's the main character, the protagonist. His main conflict is with nature. He is the only person who seems to think only of getting off the island. Another huge conflict with him is Jack, who seems to disagree with everything Ralph does. he tries his hardest to keep the boys together without yelling at them, but when Jack leaves the fire and it goes out, his last nerve snaps. He blows up on Jack and the other hunters. Ralph is one of the main characters and is round/dynamic.
Jack- He's the leader of the choir boys, has sandy hair, bright blue eyes, and is pretty pushy and impatient. He tries to elect himself for leader, but loses to Ralph. We find that he can be violent and tends to be a bully. He still acts like the leader even though he knows that he isn't in charge. Jack only cares about hunting. He's probably somewhere between 13 and 15 and acts as lead hunter. He's quite dominant and controlling. His conflict is character versus animal/nature. He feels like he needs to kill a pig not only for food but to prove something to himself or the group. Another conflict is with Ralph. Jack doesn't like that Ralph was elected leader instead of him. He does not like Piggy, and tends to take his anger out on Piggy, at one point breaking a lens in his glasses. Jack is one of the main characters and is round/static.
Piggy- Piggy is the geeky one out of all the boys. He's the outcast that wants to be listened to, but no one likes him. He wears glasses and has asthma. Piggy is very smart and has great ideas about what they should do. He likes to follow the rules and pays attention to what's going on around him. He is the voice of common sense with the boys, although nobody listens. The huge conflict with him is character versus character, because he is considered the nerd nobody wants to talk to or listen to. He is blind without his glasses, and in chapter four, one lens breaks, so he "only has one eye", and it is harder to light the fire. Piggy is one of the main characters and is round/static.
Simon- Simon is small, skinny, and quiet. He has black hair, dark skin, and a broad forehead. He tends to walk off on his own and is described as queer and funny. He's usually hanging around but if he isn't somewhere near, nobody has any clue where he could be. Simon is probably around Ralph's age but is a bit more.... abnormal. He does seems to care about Piggy at least a little though, because he gives him a chunk of pig when Jack refuses to. Simon is a main character and is flat.
Littluns- All the little boys are chunked into one group, the "Littluns". Everybody smaller than Ralph is one of them. All they do is play, and at night the others hear them crying and having nightmares. They have a deep fear that there really is a beast and that it will attack. They only play and build sandcastles during the day. They are no help at all when it comes to hunting and building. They are just in the background. The littluns are subordinate characters and are mostly flat/static.
Sam/Eric- Sam and Eric are the twins, and are totally identical, which really confuses the group. They work as one person, and they usually hunt or keep the fire. They are the only two hunters that are actually nice to both Jack and Ralph. They are the ones that think they saw the beast on the mountaintop, leading Jack to ravenously assemble his hunters and go. Sam and Eric are both subordinate characters that are both flat and static.
Roger- Roger is one of the most well-known choir boys, and is like second-in-command to Jack. He watches the entrance to the tribe's main spot, and is the one that throws the rocks at Piggy, causing Piggy to fall to his death. He is a subordinate character and is flat/static.
